My Favorite Candy Stores in Toronto
Being a Toronto native, a huge part of my childhood was visiting various candy stores on what I would like to call “special weekends”. My folks have established a reward system for me and my siblings. What is the reward? Candy, of course!
There are numerous candy stores in Toronto, most of which are run by generations of families for decades. Easter has passed, but my sweet-tooth episodes are here to stay. I know many of you, the readers can relate to me when I mention my favorite ones. These candy stores are at the top of my list, but I’m constantly on the look for more, and it’s always exciting to see whether they have unique products to offer.
Fact: I love jellybeans. As a child, I would pour out the content of the bag and arrange the beans according to color. The color which has the most number of beans is where I would begin with my munching adventure. My ultimate source of jellybeans would have to be Sweet Thrills Roncesvalles Avenue. Anyone who has been here would agree that this store is any child’s (and child at heart) dream candy store. Even from a distance of a few meters, you will be delighted to see a display of balloons and board games at the window. Inside, there is a large portion of the wall with thousands of jelly beans.
Another favorite is John’s Candy Shack. With its brightly colored door and walls, it’s impossible to miss. And yes, Uncle John is a real person. For years, customers like come to this store for candy mixes, as well as imported candy packs and baked goods.
Last but not least, Yonge Street’s Sugar Mountain is in my list of favorites because it has the most number of Pez dispensers which I collect and give to my nieces and nephews. In my younger years, I went gaga over jawbreakers, and this is where my classmates and I used to go to buy our stash, as well as local and imported candies arranged in aisles.
These candy stores have defined my childhood, and are still a part of my habitual sugar rush episodes. I hope that my fellow Canadians share the same sentiments, and that future Toronto visitors will find these and other candy stores a surprising and memorable visit.

does anyone know what happened to Clayton Sandy on Gerrard strret. My mother would travel from Georgian Bay every Easter to buy our easter candy from there. Had the best snowballs and chocolate covered sponge toffee
I’ve been exploring gourmet food stores in Toronto recently and discovered artisan mini chocolate factory Soma Chocolates that showed me how high quality chocolate tastes. I can definitely recommend everyone getting some of these gourmet chocolate. I’m glad that there’s such store in Toronto. Even though prices are quite high (even a bit higher than in other gourmet chocolate shops of the city), it’s worth trying.
Cutest candy stores in town or should I say Canada is the candy wonderland? Lol. Be careful to moderate eating – teeth could be broken.
Canadian candies are too cute and tasty to resist. Definitely you will say : “I will be coming back for those candies”
Real good information can be found on this web site.
I miss Toronto so much! I miss Sweet Thrills and its candies! Each year, I come home to visit the store. It has not changed, it still is the Sweet Thrills I have known since I was a child. Jellybeans store is rare here so I make sure to buy lots of jellybeans whenever I come home, especially because my niece is diabetic, she needs jellybeans in her pocket each day for emergency.
Uncle John’s Candy Shack has just the right name for a neighborhood sweet shop, and yes, there really is an uncle John. The store at Mount Pleasant and Davisville has a mix of familiar candies and British imports, as well as English groceries and baked goods. For when you’re in the mood for meat pie and jellybeans.
This has been my favorite Organic/Health Food Store in Toronto for Years. Really, nothing else compares. Essence of Life is ok, but Tutti Frutti is much better. They basically have anything you could ever want in bulk, and a decent selection of options for things like nuts, candies, sugars etc.

Uncle John’s Candy shack was a stunner. It has just the right name for a neighborhood candy store. Upon entering the store, you will see lots and lots of colors and candies with sizes that range from a regular bar to as big as an elephant meal! *drooling
Sugar Mountain is still the best! I remember visiting this candy store every lunch break. The giant jawbreaker (which for some reason became a recess status symbol), the PEZ dispensers (I have a collection of starwars dispensers), the yummy jellybeans and imported candies are my favorite ones.
Jellybeans! Almost everybody in our neighborhood loves them and wanna have a piece of them. And as I grew up, I still can’t keep away from it… that’s what my kids got from me (wink). Every time there are special occasions, we really make it a point that we have jellybean candies as a treat! Crunchy munchies that you never wanna give up! I wish somebody can put a recipe here wherein we can make a homemade jellybean!
If you have a child take them here, or don’t, depending on what kind of reaction you want or how much money you want to spend. They have everything any kid could want.
Sugar Mountain is a great place for candy. A lot of candy mixes and all kinds of imported goods, the best jelly belly prices in Toronto.
Who does not love sweets and candies?! At least all the kids I know do.. The decoration and colors used for the stores make me feel like I am at the fairground… green and red and orange. All bright and happy colors!
We have almost the same experience Melanie (the author). I truly love these candies when I was a child. I never stop eating them until I experienced toothache. Whenever I and my mom go on shopping or on groceries, I never failed to buy those sweet colorful candies, especially those jellybeans!
